The Concept of Flow

“Flow is defined as an optimal state of consciousness, a state where you feel your best and perform your best. More specifically, the term refers to those moments of rapt attention and total absorption, when you get so focused on the task at hand that everything else disappears. Action and awareness merge. Your sense of self vanishes. Your sense of time distorts (either, typically, speeds up; or, occasionally, slows down). And throughout, all aspects of performance—both mental and physical—go through the roof.”

“Flow appears near the emotional midpoint between boredom and anxiety”.
— Steven Kotler

  • How would you define “being in flow”?

  • What would you say is your most significant personal accomplishment or life defining event?

  • What activities are you good at?

  • What activities do you do where you become so focused that you lose sense of time?

  • When are you at your peak performance?

  • What are 3 events in your life where you relied on your intuition and took a leap of faith?

  • Name 3 instances where things went really smoothly and fell into place naturally.

  • What does success look like to you? How will you know when you get there?
